Sixteen high street shops are closing every day, according to accounting firm PWC and retail analyst Local Data Company in April 2018. This is twice the rate of one year earlier.
In the last five years, 28,000 shops have closed and 23,000 shops have opened. This means that 1 in 38 shops has disappeared. Worst affected are shops selling clothes and shoes. Cafes and ice cream parlours have seen a small increase. [18.04]
