Former BDO director jailed

Former director of accounting firm BDO was jailed for seven years in July 2018 for defrauding pensioners of £2.63 million.

The fraud ran from 2002 to 2009. Some money has been recovered, but victims have still lost £1.9 million.

Richard David Arthur, a chartered accountant from Jersey, took money from clients which he used to fund an extravagant lifestyle. He was struck off by the Institute in 2013.

Until 2009, Arthur was a director of a predecessor firm of BDO. That form was itself a victim. [18.07]
